What is ultrasonic cavitation?
Ultrasonic cavitation is an FDA-cleared, nonsurgical fat reduction treatment. The procedure uses ultrasound waves to destroy fat cells in targeted treatment areas—typically the upper arms, belly, love handles, thighs, or chin. Typically you’ll have between 6-10 ultrasonic cavitation treatments to see significant changes. You’ll also have to wait up to three months for your lymphatic system to flush the dead cells before you see your final results.

Each ultrasonic cavitation session is relatively quick: it takes about an hour for your provider to glide the cavitation machine’s handheld probe over the desired area, delivering low-frequency sound waves that “vibrate” the walls of the fat cells until they burst and turn into free fatty acids the body can expel.
Risks for this treatment are minimal and side effects are rare. Ultrasonic cavitation is painless, leaves no scars, and requires no anesthesia. Recovery time is minimal to nonexistent, and side effects like mild bruising and redness are rare.
The ideal candidate for ultrasonic cavitation:
- is in good overall health.
- doesn’t smoke.
- has realistic expectations.
- is already within 15 pounds of their goal weight.
Ultrasonic cavitation side effects
Ultrasonic cavitation is considered a low-risk treatment for most people. Common side effects include:
- redness
- bruising
- headache
Conditions that would mean you were not able to have these treatments:
- Pregnant
- Breastfeeding
- HIV/AIDS
- Cancer (all forms)
- Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy
- Immunodeficiency
- Lupus
- High blood pressure (uncontrolled)
- Diabetes (uncontrolled)
- Prednisone and other steroid medications (treatment will increase inflammation)
- Heart problems or diseases
- Kidney damage, diseases, or problems
- Liver damage, diseases, or problems
- Hemorrhagic disease, trauma, or bleeding
- Numb or insensitive to heat
- Rosacea
- Active implanted device such as pacemaker or defibrillator

How does radio frequency skin tightening work?
Radio frequency devices use safe levels of low-frequency electromagnetic waves to generate heat. This heat penetrates deep into your skin’s layers. There, it stimulates new skin cell production (regeneration). The treatment also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins give skin cells more strength and flexibility. As a result, sagging skin regains its firm shape and feel.
